Lynchburg VA center for arts, culture, and community building
Join us on Friday, August 1 from 5:00–8:00 PM at the Academy Center of the Arts for August First Friday: Driftwood & Wax, Wind, and Fire, an evocative evening showcasing two powerful exhibitions across our galleries.
In the Front Gallery:
Eugene Archie – Driftwood
A collection of sculptural works created from salvaged wood. With deep roots in the natural world and personal heritage, Archie’s pieces reflect a meditative process and an intuitive relationship with found materials—each sculpture telling a story shaped by time, spirit, and care.
In the Anne White Gallery:
Group Exhibition – Wax, Wind, and Fire
Featuring Amanda Smith, Christine Rooney, Giselle Gautreau, Gina Louthian-Stanley, and Gail Haile
This group show brings together five accomplished encaustic artists exploring nature, transformation, and reverence through wax-based mediums. From luminous fictional landscapes inspired by maps to intimate altarpieces honoring nature’s power and peace, each artist brings a unique voice to this ancient art form. Expect layered surfaces, elemental processes, and poetic expressions shaped by heat, intuition, and devotion.
✨ Meet the artists, enjoy live music, and experience the sensory richness of art shaped by earth, air, and flame. This is an evening to be moved—by texture, story, and creative energy.
