Lynchburg VA center for arts, culture, and community building
Virginia singer/songwriter, Paddy Dougherty, performs a mix of jazz standards, commanding originals, and uplifting folk tunes on piano and guitar. Paddy, known regionally as the voice of the award-winning band, Mainstreet Rhythm & Blues, also spent time on the road as a backup singer for national bluesman, David Bromberg. She had several of her songs fully orchestrated by legendary arranger, Charles Calello, and performed in concert with the Lynchburg Symphony Orchestra and Rita Coolidge. For five years, she toured as a songwriter with Kid Pan Alley writing hundreds of songs with thousands of children and after nearly 30 years of teaching music, Paddy has recently retired from the classroom to return to the stage. Joining her at The Music Hall are long time bandmates Larry Scott/drums, Robin Tolley/bass, and Glenn Buck/keyboards and saxophone.
Last year, the quartet did a series of shows titled “Movin’ On” as a potential farewell and show of gratitude for their fans of over 30 years. The shows were so well received that the band figured out a way to continue performing together. Dougherty says, “As long as people want to hear our music we’ll keep writing and learning new material. These shows are more like family reunions at this point and there’s nothing more satisfying than coming together and celebrating in song. I believe we’re ‘Here to Stay'”.
